- New ads in India tease the upcoming features of the Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus and the Galaxy J4 Plus.
- It appears that both devices will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as Infinity Displays.
- The budget-focused phones will likely see large demand in India as well as other markets.
The Samsung Galaxy J4 and Samsung Galaxy J6 landed in May of this year. Now, via SamMobile, it looks like we’re going to get “Plus” variants of those devices: the Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy J4 Plus.
While the Galaxy J4 and Galaxy J6 were pretty standard budget-focused devices, there is a notable new feature to the Plus variants: a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Theoretically, the side-mounted fingerprint sensor will either be built into the power button or possibly installed very close nearby. We know this from the advertisement below which showed up on the official Samsung India site:
While the image stops short of saying, “The Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus and Galaxy J4 Plus will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the power button,” the image makes it pretty clear that that’s what we should expect. The model’s finger touching the side of the device with the unlock icon above it all but confirms the placement.
Other images on the official site suggest the following features:
- Infinity Display, which is expected since the non-Plus variants of the devices all had this feature.
- Bold color options (yellow, orange, and blue are suggested, but that could change).
- Dual rear cameras.
There’s also something called “Emotify” which looks like the Samsung AR Emoji feature. While it’s possible that Samsung is bringing AR Emoji to the Galaxy J line, it’s more likely that the company is bringing a watered-down version of AR Emoji instead, considering that AR Emoji is one of the flagship features of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines.
The page doesn’t give any indication of a release date, launch countries, or pricing, unfortunately. However, according to SamMobile, we can expect the Samsung Galaxy J6 Plus to have a 6-inch 1,480 x 720 resolution LCD display, a Snapdragon 425, up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, a 3,300mAh battery, and a 13MP/5MP dual rear camera set up. These could change at any time though and are just rumored specs.
It’s likely that Samsung will push these devices hard in India and (hopefully) at a very fair price. The company needs success in India if it hopes to compete with Huawei and Xiaomi, which dominate the market with their cheap-yet-powerful mid-range devices.
