A closer look at the LG V30 in Raspberry Rose (and the $2K Signature Edition)

When LG released the V30 back in August 2017, it was available in four colors: Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue, and Lavender Violet. Just a few days before CES 2018, the company announced an all-new color that might give the other variants a run for their money.

We tracked down the Raspberry Rose LG V30 at CES, and boy is it pretty.

The photos here really don’t do it justice. This particular shade of red not only stands out from the other plain smartphone colors out there, but also other red phones. It’s more of a violet-pink. The color shifts nicely when you move the phone around in your hand, making for a very cool visual effect. The company also opted for a black front panel, which was a great decision in my opinion.

Aside from the change in color, there’s nothing different between this and all the other V30s available. It has the same specifications, same B&O logo on the back and LG logo on the bottom.

The handset will make its way to Korea soon after CES, followed by key markets in Europe and Asia at a later date. There’s no word on a U.S. launch.

We also got a first-hand look at the LG V30 Signature Edition (though we were unable to secure an untethered unit).

The ultra-premium handset was announced back in December 2017 for around 2 million won (about $1,800). What does that gigantic price tag get you over the standard V30? Not much. This model comes in either black or white colors and features a zirconium ceramic plate build which replaces the standard model’s glass body, making it more resistant to scratches. You can also get LG to laser engrave your name on the back.

Aside from the fancier build materials, the V30 Signature has 6 GB of RAM (up from 4 GB), as well as 256 GB of expandable storage. This model is also running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, while all other V30s are still stuck on Nougat. Other than that, this is the same V30 that launched back in August.

Even if you have an extra 2 million won lying around and want one for yourself, it still might be tough to get. It’s on sale exclusively in South Korea, and LG is only producing 300 units.

If you had the cash, would you spring for either of these phones? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to stay tuned for more CES 2018 coverage.
